Beater Bar - Spartan Beater Training

FitBar Obstacle Trainers

Ever since the folks at Spartan Race came out with the Spartan Beater obstacle in the fall of 2018, OCR athletes have had rotating bars to deal with on the Spartan Multi Rig when running the Spartan Beast. Spartan racers asked us to develop a tool to help train for the rotating bars, so we developed and launched the Beater Bar. The Beater Bar has three 1.5” diameter zinc plated bars that rotate about a common shaft. The actual Spartan Beater has four aluminum pipes that rotate about a single shaft.

The bars on the FitBar Beater Bar do not rotate about their respective axis, so they are excellent training for grip strength. As opposed the Grip Wheel which has soft hand grips that rotate and are easier on the hands, the Beater Bar quickly builds hand callouses, a must if you are looking to toughen up your hands in preparation for an obstacle course race (OCR) or a ninja course competition. It’s also great for building upper body strength, as it requires one arm to overcome the resistance of the other arm while suspending your body weight. The Beater Bar installs in seconds on any 1 3/8” diameter or smaller pull up bar or pull up rig. The attachment hooks include a safety bars that keeps the Beater Bar in place. Plastic sleeves keep the Beater Bar in place.

The Beater Bar is 24 inches wide and requires the bar to be at least 8” from a wall. The center shaft hangs down 7.5 inches from the bar it is mounted on, and it effectively puts the user’s hands 13” below the attached bar. The current World Record for the maximum number of Grip Wheel reps (the rotation of a triangular element in either direction constitutes a rep) is 84!
